I will not tell you about the admirable Joseph Hubertus Pilates, nor about his miraculous, almost 100-year-old Contrology method.

Mr. Pilates, his method and you, certainly deserve me to tell you about this at a personal meeting.

But I have something to share with you.

Despite the great popularity and availability of Pilates information, people are mistaken about this method. I once had a superficial and distorted image. And if there were no great coincidences of coincidence, I would never have tried this, a “boring, slow, and unforgiving exercise for me” that I have seen on You Toube a few times.

So I will try to disprove the five major mistakes. Five, unknown by whom, how and why myths created.

Myth # 1 – The Pilates method was born from yoga and is a branch of yoga.

For this mistake, the fact that Joseph Pilates was actively engaged not only in various sports, but also in yoga and thai-chi. Therefore, some of the Pilates exercises can remotely commemorate yoga exercises.

Each of these methods is different, each is effective and complementary.

Myth # 2 – Pilates is a “workout on the stomach”.

Of course, Pilates exercises are “exercises on the stomach”, even one of the six principles of the Pilates method is “movement from the center of the body”. However, Pilates is by no means limited to strengthening the abdominal muscles. The method is known for a complex approach that not only equally harnesses all muscle groups, but also focuses on breathing and concentration of mind.

Myth # 3 – Pilates is a simpler exercise for the weak.

This idea was probably due to the great attractiveness of the Pilates method. 34 basic exercises for beginners along with pupil development are progressively modified into several hundred of the most difficult exercises. That’s why Pilates are also popular with top athletes.

This procedure, in which the person concerned does not have to fill in the fact of being inappropriate, disregarding the quality of execution, gives the possibility to everyone to learn the Pilates technique in a very precise and physical way to add gradually.

Myth # 4 – Pilates is an exercise for women.

Joseph Hubertus Pilates died unhappily as a result of a fire at the age of 83. From the last photos, we are looking at a man in absolutely perfect physical form.

He had formed his method all his life and was a direct advertisement for her.

He began practicing as a weak, sick, asthma and ricket kid, and soon he worked out, for example, in England teaching self-defense to the detectives of Scotland Yard.

The uniqueness of the Pilates method is that it suits it perfectly for everyone – for women and men, for the elderly and younger, for sportsmen and people who last practiced at elementary school.

Myth # 5 – Just DVD.

I quite often encounter the fact that people are practicing DVD or YouTube. Unfortunately, this is not the right choice.

The reasons are two:

none of the instructors in the learning video tells you about half how you have to do that or that exercise. They would simply be prepared for this job and all of their clients would be trained at home.

Secondly, even very experienced instructors go to work for colleagues. The explanation is simple – even the person who is professionally taught in Pilates, needs to check the correctness from time to time, needs a look from the other side.

Such control pupils need all the time.

DVD or YouTube is a great short-term solution for holiday or business travel. However, in case you have already trained with a coach, you know what you need to do at the exercise and therefore you can try to get it right.
